About

The Press Hotel, Autograph Collection located in Portland, Maine, is the ultimate trendy and chic hotel in Portland’s Old Port District. The Press Hotel is located in the former Gannett Building, which used to house the offices and printing plant of the Portland Press Herald, the state’s largest newspaper. The Portland Press Herald operation lived in the building until 2010, and was originally constructed in 1923.

The Press Hotel captures the essence of Portland, Maine, in a lot of ways. It’s beautiful brick exterior mimics many of those in the Old Port District, which has become one of the country’s most successful revitalized warehouse districts. This area of the city perfectly blends Portland’s working waterfront with a walkable neighborhood of historic buildings housing shops, restaurants and residences. The cobblestone streets connect tourists to Portland’s many unique points of interest, such as the Downtown Historic District, Wadsworth Longfellow House and the Victoria Mansion. Additionally, the Portland, Maine airport, (the Portland International Jetport Airport) is just 2.5 mi away.

Inside the hotel, the building’s 110 guest rooms and suites feature a vintage-styled journalist desk, wood floors with herringbone area rug, and the work of local artists and artisans. The historic building boasts oversized windows in every guestroom, providing natural light and fresh Maine air during your stay. Plus, don’t’ forget the incredible views of the Old Port, the harbor, surrounding islands, and the Atlantic Ocean.

If you’re looking for a truly exceptional stay, be sure to check out the hotel’s Penthouse Suite, known as the Royal Suite. When it comes to hotel accomodations and the best Portland, Maine hotels, this ranks super high. The 1,100 square foot suite features an open-space design with kitchenette, wet bar, dining room, and living room lets you enjoy the warmth and reflection of your elevated fireplace. You can relax in your king-sized bed or the chaise lounge chair, and luxuriate in the large, spa-ready bathroom with dual mirror TV, an oversized soaking tub, and double vanity sinks.

In search of an incredible meal? The hotel does not disappoint on that front, either. The hotel offers two places to eat; UNION, which is Portland's newest farm-to-table (and sea-to-table) hotspot, and the Inkwell Bar. The Bar serves hand-crafted vintage cocktails, Portland microbrews and small plates in the hotel lobby.

The hotel also features four meeting and event spaces ranging in size from 300 to 1,170 square feet. At the base of a dramatic open staircase that descends from the lobby, these spaces resemble private residential libraries and are ideal for executive retreats, small business meetings, board meetings, weddings and social functions.

Additional hotel amenities include:

  • Oversized flat-screen HD television with premium cable stations
  • Working/writing desk and ergonomic leather writer’s chair
  • Mini-stereo system with Bluetooth® compatibility
  • Spa-ready, marble-tiled bathrooms with rain head shower and Bigelow® amenities

  • Multiple conveniently located USB and power outlets
